Build-Zone strengthens team with new appointment

Build-Zone has strengthened the team by appointing Grant Sykes.

Grant Sykes is the newest member to join us here at Build-zone. Graduating from Loughborough University in 2009; Grant went on to gain experience in logistics and financial operations before joining us.

After a five week introduction and training in the Self-Build Zone team; Grant’s role within the team is varied and involves him dealing with direct clients, private individuals and developers. His involvement takes him from warranty enquiries through to issuing final certificates of insurance.

Grant is currently studying for the CII Certification and plans to continue with additional qualifications to further enhance his knowledge and understanding of the industry.

“The training provided has opened my eyes to a number of construction methods and techniques, along with building regulations, and as a result I cannot look at a building in the same way again!

Build-Zone Survey Services Limited is the latest development from structural warranty provider Build-Zone

Build-Zone Survey Services Limited is the latest development from Build-Zone.

Operating as a separate company, it will be managed and run by Andy Butchers, an experienced and successful Building Surveyor and Loss Adjuster. The move will add another dimension to Build-Zone’s already well respected and positioned brand (structural warranty and insurance products for builders, developers and property owners).

One of Andy’s many roles will be to improve the whole ‘client experience’ and to add further products to the portfolio that will cater for self-builders, through to large corporate clients.   Andy has already been given a warm welcome within the industry and is committed to growing the brand and developing strong relationships with suppliers, clients and insurers.

Get Britain Building Programme receives enthusiastic feedback

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has confirmed that they have received a very positive response to the Get Britain Building Programme with the programme becoming a central part in tackling the housing crisis.

Funding allocations under a special commissioning stage, running alongside the main bidding process, has also been announced.

A total of 170 expressions of interest submissions have been received under the main bidding process, many of these submissions contained bids for multiple schemes. The HCA will now asses these expressions of interest looking at factors such as; value for money, deliverability and fit with local priorities.

A shortlist of schemes should therefore be released by mid-March.

Furthermore, 18 sites will go forward to the next stage of the assessment process to unlock delivery on commissioned schemes, these are of a high importance to particular communities and can create ample local benefits. Up to £46m could be allocated to the 18 commissioned schemes to deliver 1,300 new homes including on public sector sites.

House prices fall for the eighth consecutive month

Experts predict prices will continue to fall as fewer people are getting loans and many are falling behind repayments

The average price of a UK home fell by 1.4% in January to £208,552 according to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

The annual rate of house price inflation dipped to 0.5% in January, compared to 3.8% in December and a peak of 10.6% in May 2010, according to the DCLG house price index. It was the eighth consecutive month during which the annual rate of house price inflation has fallen.

Negative housing market data was also announced by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), which showed new loans to borrowers reached £37bn in the fourth quarter of 2010 – a drop of 10% compared to the previous quarter and an 11% fall compared to the final quarter of 2009.

The FSA said the number of new arrears cases increased in the final three months of last year to 38,800 – 6% higher than the previous quarter but still 5% below the 40,900 cases in the fourth quarter of 2009 . The total number of accounts in arrears at the end of 2010 was 343,400, unchanged from last quarter.
